Today, we left Madrid bright and early at 9 AM and left for Toledo, an old city South of Madrid and on the way to Granada. After an 1:30 ride we arrived to see this massive city sitting on a hill surrounded by a river. The tour guide said that this was a key place during wars because there was a mote surrounding the city and there are also walls near the bottom. It was just such an amazing site to see. Then we got a tour of the Jewish quarter, a piece of the town that consisted of one thing on the ground that was written in Hebrew. And then we went inside a very nice church that houses monks. Some of the sculptors made fun of the monks by putting crude images of on the stonework. One example that they showed us was a monkey sitting on the toilet and reading a book. The guide said that this is what the sculptors thought the monks did all day because they had nothing better to do. After the church, we saw a synagogue, but it wasn't used as a synagogue because there was no Jewish population in Toledo anymore. Then we walked by the second largest church in the country, next to one in Seville. This would have been more impressive if we had gone inside, but it cost too much or something. Anyways, Toledo was awesome. It is probably the most ancient city I've ever visited in my life.
Then we embarked on a 4 and a half hour bus drive to Granada that ended with us meeting our host moms! Mine is named Carmen and she has three sons that are all grown and live throughout Granada. Her apartment is wicked nice and actually has WiFi which was not promised by API. Anyways, we have a big day tomorrow where we're going to tour the city. Hasta luego!
